Samsung voicemail to text, two ways

Galaxy phones can transcribe voicemails — if your carrier supports visual voicemail and you find the hidden toggle. When it won't cooperate, upload the audio here and read the transcript in seconds.

There's no Samsung-branded voicemail transcription. On a Galaxy phone the feature lives inside the Visual Voicemail app — or your carrier's replacement for it — behind a "Voicemail transcription" toggle in its Settings, and it only works if your carrier provisions visual voicemail on your line. On many plans the carrier's own app takes over and decides whether transcription exists at all.

Even where it works, the transcript is a convenience preview: coverage and languages vary by carrier, and quality drops on noisy audio. And a voicemail you saved, forwarded, or exported as a file can't be transcribed by any built-in feature.

Route two works on every Galaxy: share the voicemail as an audio file and upload it here. Whisper handles 90+ languages with automatic punctuation — three transcriptions a day free, no account and no carrier required.

Galaxy voicemail jobs

Finding the toggle

Visual Voicemail app → ☰ → Settings → "Voicemail transcription", or Phone app → menu → Settings → Voicemail. No toggle usually means your carrier doesn't support it.

Saved or forwarded voicemails

A voicemail exported for records, a dispute, or a family archive is invisible to every built-in feature. Upload the file and transcribe it.

Languages your carrier skips

Carrier transcription is built around English. Whisper auto-detects across 90+ languages, accents included.

Questions, answered

Does Samsung have voicemail to text?

Not as a Samsung feature. Galaxy phones transcribe voicemails through the Visual Voicemail app when your carrier supports it — open the app, tap ☰ → Settings, and look for "Voicemail transcription". On many lines the carrier's own app (T-Mobile Visual Voicemail, AT&T Visual Voicemail, My Verizon) replaces Samsung's and decides whether transcription exists.

Why is there no transcription option on my Samsung?

The usual causes: your carrier doesn't provision visual voicemail (common on MVNOs), the Visual Voicemail app's network access is restricted in Settings → Connections → Data usage, or your carrier's app replaced Samsung's without including transcription. Try the toggles and clearing the app cache first — or upload the voicemail audio here, which works regardless of carrier.

How do I transcribe a voicemail on my Samsung for free?

Save or share the voicemail from your visual voicemail app (share sheet → Save to Files or Drive, or email it to yourself), then upload it here. Three transcriptions a day are free, no account, and the transcript comes back punctuated in 90+ languages.

Does this work on Galaxy S22, S23 and S24?

Yes — the audio-file route is identical on every Galaxy. The built-in transcription toggle also exists on all recent models, but only appears where your carrier supports visual voicemail.

What about Google Voice on a Samsung?

It works: route your voicemail to Google Voice and it transcribes for free — though the language is auto-guessed (English messages sometimes come back in Spanish) and it only covers voicemail that arrives in Google Voice. Uploading files here has neither limitation.

Is my voicemail private?

Your file is processed in memory to produce the transcript and is never stored. We keep no copy of your audio.
